If you are….
- Actively looking for a job
- Pondering what the next opportunity will be
- Wondering how you got into a company that is NOT following through on a culture they promised
Then this episode is for you!
A little disclaimer: You will never 100% truly know what it looks like to work for a company until you work for them.
Hang on, don’t leave! Stay with me!!
There are things that we can do to help you mitigate any risks and really ask the hard questions to get down to what really matters to you in order to understand what that culture is like.
Join us in this episode as we talk about the 3 steps you can take to help figure out if a company ACTUALLY has good culture…or not.
[5:46] Who is this episode for?
[6:23] What is “employer branding” and how does it affect you?
[8:55] You’re not working for departments, you’re working for people.
[9:48] Step 1: Understand what YOU find valuable
[12:22] Step 2: Do your research (plus how to know what to look for in these reviews)
[16:09] A few companies that have great transparent culture
[17:50] Step 3: Ask A LOT of questions in an interview (with examples!)
[26:11] It’s not about asking the right questions, it’s about asking the questions you want to know the answers to

Action Steps to apply to YOUR journey:
- Get a journal and work through this question: What does “good culture” mean to YOU?
- Do your research in these places: Glassdoor, The Muse, B Corp, LinkedIn, the company’s website, Google the culture of the company
- At the interview, ask pointed, strategic questions to get to the bottom of what the culture actually is like on a day to day basis and if the promises are true.
Here are some culture questions you can ask during an interview:
- What’s one thing you would change about the culture here?
- I noticed on your website that your team is involved in ___________ initiative. How does that play out on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis?
- A question for your direct manager – How would you describe your leadership style?
- If you’re not being interviewed by your direct manager – What would be 3 words you would use to describe (your direct manager’s name)?
- I noticed on your Glassdoor page there were a lot of reviews that talked about __________. Do you see that as being relevant and if so, what is the company doing to relieve this issue?
I’m rooting for you friends!
